The Affordable Care Act (ACA), is sometimes referred to as Obama Care. It is a law that aims to make health insurance more accessible and affordable to Americans. It was signed into law in March, 2010.
ACA removed annual and lifetime limits on essential health benefits.
The ACA protects Consumers and provides protection for people with pre-existing conditions. The Goal of the ACA is to make affordable health insurance available to more people. The law provides consumers with subsidies ("premium tax credit") that lowers costs for households with incomes between 100% and 400% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL).
If your income is above 400% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL), you may still qualify for the premium tax credit.
If your income is at or below 150% FPL, you may qualify to enroll in or change Marketplace coverage through a "Special Enrollment Period."
